Story
Abigail is a young woman of approximately 25 years. For a few months now she has been engaged to a young man named Paul. But she faces a problem: there is a big river separating her from her fiancée and there is no bridge that she can use. There is no possible way for her to cross this river by herself.
She thinks about how to get to the other side of the river and then Marc comes into her mind.
Marc is a ferry man she knows who has got a boat. She goes to see Marc and asks him to get her to the other side of the river. Marc answers that he will only bring her to the other side if she spends a night with him.
She is shocked and doesn’t know what to do. She runs home to her mother and asks for her advice. But Abigail´s mother tells her that Abigail herself has to make a decision and that she won´t help Abigail in this matter.
After thinking about everything for a long time, Abigail goes back to Marc, spends a night with him and the next morning Marc takes her to the other side of the river.
Abigail and Paul are very happy to see each other again. But shortly before the wedding Abigail feels that she has to tell Paul the truth of how she came to cross the river once separating the two lovers. After she told Paul the story about the ferry man Marc and herself, Paul gets very angry, says that he will never in his life marry her and he throws Abigail out of the house.
She leaves crying and feels very desperate. John, Paul´s best friend, passes her way. He listens to her story and then runs back to Paul and gives him a beating. Then he comforts Abigail and together they go away.
